Each month we spotlight a different CrossFit 1710 athlete who stands out and shows just how awesome they are. What is it that makes up an Athlete of the Month? It may not be the person that finishes the fastest, Rx’s every WOD, or gets a PR every time they walk in the gym. Although we love and celebrate when those things happen, the Athlete of the Month is made up of much more than physical ability. This person shows up, gives their best every time, and then gives a little more. They are hungry to learn and always ready to do the work. They support their fellow athletes and encourage them to reach their goals. This athlete embodies what we believe the CrossFit 1710 Community should be about.
Our September 2021 Athlete of The Month is Jennifer Perez! Jennifer began her CrossFit journey with us on May 14th, 2021. Every workout with Jennifer is fun! She is super coachable, has an awesome attitude, and gives every workout her best! Because of her consistency with these awesome attributes, we see excellent growth in both Jennifer's physical strength and mental toughness. You will find Jennifer getting her workout in for the day in our Strong Before class at 5:00 am. I'm Jenn, 33 years old, laid back person, very quiet & reserved.
2. WHAT MADE YOU START CROSSFIT?
To be healthier & get out of my comfort zone.
3. WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED SINCE JOINING CROSSFIT 1710?
Allow myself grace & lots of patience.
4. WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT CROSSFIT 1710 OR CROSSFIT IN GENERAL?
The camaraderie.
5. WHAT IS YOUR PROUDEST CROSSFIT MOMENT?
Every time I PR an exercise/move.
6. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE MOVEMENT/LIFT? LEAST FAVORITE?
BURPEES!!
7. WHAT IMPACT HAS CROSSFIT HAD ON YOUR LIFE IN AND OUT OF THE GYM?
Self confidence & more energy. I had a very bad car accident, October 2015. 7 surgeries including brain & facial surgeries, my mouth was wired shut, and joining CrossFit has helped self confidence again.
8. WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS AND HOW CLOSE ARE YOU TO REACHING THEM?
A small goal is to lose 30 lbs by Christmas and I'm 12 lbs down!
9. WHEN YOU’RE NOT CROSSFITTING WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE THING TO DO?
Love being outdoors, hunting, fishing, watching sports, & being with family.
10. THE ONE TIP YOU’D GIVE SOMEONE WHO IS THINKING ABOUT STARTING CROSSFIT OR JUST STARTED?
It's okay to not be able to do everything your first time around.
11. WHAT IS YOUR DIET LIKE? HAS IT CHANGED SINCE STARTING CROSSFIT?
Yes it has changed tremendously since I started CrossFit.
12. RESULTS? TELL US ABOUT YOUR RESULTS!
My stamina has improved & I'm able to increase the weight amount each exercise.
