October 2022 Athlete of the Month: Licia Rojas

Each month we spotlight a different CrossFit 1710 athlete who stands out and shows just how awesome they are. What is it that makes up an Athlete of the Month? It may not be the person that finishes the fastest, Rx’s every WOD, or gets a PR every time they walk in the gym. Although we love and celebrate when those things happen, the Athlete of the Month is made up of much more than physical ability. This person shows up, gives their best every time, and then gives a little more. They are hungry to learn and always ready to do the work. They support their fellow athletes and encourage them to reach their goals. This athlete embodies what we believe the CrossFit 1710 Community should be about.

Our October 2022 Athlete of The Month is Licia Rojas! Licia began her CrossFit journey with us on May 14, 2022 and has made fantastic gains in strength and nutrition knowledge in the past 5 months! Licia usually attends our morning classes to get her day going, but catches afternoon classes sometimes too. Her dedication to consistency in both the gym and the kitchen have led to healthy weight loss and impressive strength gained! Licia shows up to every class with a desire to learn more about how to improve technique, gain strength, and have fun with her CrossFit 1710 teammates. Congratulations Licia! We’re so happy to have you as our October 2022 Athlete of the Month and as a fantastic example of how being patient with the process pays off! Get to know Licia in her interview below.

1. TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF.

My name is Analicia, but everyone calls me Licia. I am 25 years old. I have my bachelor’s degree in Business Healthcare Administration. I work at Oakbend Medical Group in Sugar Land with the administrative team. My hobbies include spending family time, spoiling my fur baby Ace and working out. I have been with CrossFit 1710 for about 5 months.

2. WHAT MADE YOU START CROSSFIT?

I liked to workout but needed something that could challenge me more and hold myself more accountable.

3. WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED SINCE JOINING CROSSFIT 1710?

That you do not have to be the strongest or fittest person to do CrossFit. Anyone willing to show up and put in the work can do it.

4. WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT CROSSFIT 1710 OR CROSSFIT IN GENERAL?

I enjoy how CrossFit 1710 challenges me to new levels. Sometimes I look at the WODs and think, “how I will be able to do this?” But then getting the workout done and having your team finishing strong with you is a great atmosphere to be in.

5. WHAT IS YOUR PROUDEST CROSSFIT MOMENT?

Any time we max out on a movement, and I can lift heavier weight challenging myself with having my CrossFit family cheer me on. Those are my “wild animal moments.”

6. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE MOVEMENT/LIFT? LEAST FAVORITE?

My favorite would be Lunges or Thrusters. My least favorite would be push-ups.

7. WHAT IMPACT HAS CROSSFIT HAD ON YOUR LIFE IN AND OUT OF THE GYM?

Going to CrossFit every morning has built this drive in me to want a better, healthier, and more positive lifestyle. CrossFit gives me confidence to take on each day. It has helped my mindset to want to grow as a woman in every aspect of my life: physically, emotionally and spiritually.

8. WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS AND HOW CLOSE ARE YOU TO REACHING THEM?

My goal was to gain more muscle and to learn new movements with weights, while using the correct form. Each month I have become stronger and leaner. I have learned how to life weights safely and effectively. I know I will continue to reach my goals. I am still pending on my abs.

9. WHEN YOU’RE NOT CROSSFITTING WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE THING TO DO?

I enjoy spending time with my family and fur baby Ace, my Shih Tzu I have had for four years now. I love to take vacations and experience new places.

10. WHAT ISTHE ONE TIP YOU’D GIVE SOMEONE WHO IS THINKING ABOUT STARTING CROSSFIT OR JUST STARTED?

Stay consistent even when you don’t feel motivated. Staying consistent, self-disciplined, and focused will bring back motivation and make the days you are motivated that much greater.

11. WHAT IS YOUR DIET LIKE? HAS IT CHANGED SINCE STARTING CROSSFIT?

I have changed my diet, starting by meal prepping 5 days out of the week. I have learned more about appropriate portions of my food by adding more protein and getting my vegetables in for the day. I have definitely learned nutrition is key in seeing the change in my body.

12. RESULTS? TELL US ABOUT YOUR RESULTS!

When I started three months ago, I was 182 pounds, and I am now 160 pounds. I feel so much stronger and have watched my body become more toned. I love it!
