Each month we spotlight a different CrossFit 1710 athlete who stands out and shows just how awesome they are. What is it that makes up an Athlete of the Month? It may not be the person that finishes the fastest, Rx’s every WOD, or gets a PR every time they walk in the gym. Although we love and celebrate when those things happen, the Athlete of the Month is made up of much more than physical ability. This person shows up, gives their best every time, and then gives a little more. They are hungry to learn and always ready to do the work. They support their fellow athletes and encourage them to reach their goals. This athlete embodies what we believe the CrossFit 1710 Community should be about.
Our October 2020 Athlete of The Month is Sarah Armour! Sarah began her CrossFit journey with us on December 20, 2019. Her work ethic, consistency, and determination to improve her health and fitness is something we are very proud of as his coaches and teammates. You can usually find Sarah in the 5:00a or 5:30p classes! Get to know Sarah in her interview below. Come and join Sarah in a workout and you too will see what she is talking about and why she's our AOTM! Congratulations Sarah! We’re so happy to have you as our October 2020 Athlete of the Month and as an awesome athlete in our community!

1. TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF.
My name is Sarah Armour. I am 31 years young, married to my husband, Andrew, for seven years and the mother to two amazing children, Lacy (4) and Kash (20 months).
2. WHAT MADE YOU START CROSSFIT?
At the end of 2019-literally the last week, I had been thinking of trying something new. I was 9-10 months post pardum and wanted to be actively involved in some type of exercise, but something that I would have to be committed to. Going into 2020, I started, January 2 to be exact. There is no turning back, I couldn’t imagine being a part of anything else.
3. WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED SINCE JOINING CROSSFIT 1710?
For me, every day is a learning experience. From proper form and technique to understanding and knowing that you will not always be done first, be able to lift the heaviest, or be able to run the fastest. I have also came to the realization and still have to remind myself that I am stronger than I think I am and have understood the importance of what you fuel your body with, gives you the output you get at workout.
4. WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT CROSSFIT 1710 OR CROSSFIT IN GENERAL?
Everyone at CrossFit 1710, is basically like family to me. Being present 5-6 days a week, you become family. The support each and every individual has for one another is amazing.
5. WHAT IS YOUR PROUDEST CROSS-FIT MOMENT?
Consecutive, unbanded kipping pull-ups.
6. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE MOVEMENT/LIFT? LEAST FAVORITE?
Favorite Movement: Burpees
Favorite Lift: Clean and Jerk
Least Favorite Lift: Overhead Squats
7. WHAT IMPACT HAS CROSSFIT HAD ON YOUR LIFE IN AND OUT OF THE GYM?
I am a happier person when I get to go spend that one hour a day with one of the best support systems out there. Overall, I feel less stressed and a lot healthier and full of energy when I leave the box.
8. WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS AND HOW CLOSE ARE YOU TO REACHING THEM?
My goals are to stick with this and continue getting stronger. I also would like to continue zeroing in on my nutrition to where I do not for a second have to think, is this good for me? Does this fall in line with what I should be eating. Have I already had a cheat meal this week?
9. WHEN YOU’RE NOT CROSS-FITTING, WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE THING TO DO?
My favorite things to do are spending time with my family and being outdoors.
10. THE ONE TIP YOU’D GIVE SOMEONE WHO IS THINKING ABOUT STARTING CROSSFIT OR JUST STARTED?
Every workout can be accommodated to one’s skill level...just show up and keep moving. The sky is the limit!
11. WHAT IS YOUR DIET LIKE? HAS IT CHANGED SINCE STARTING CROSSFIT?
Starting in January 2020, my main goal was to get involved consistently working out-even through COVID-I kept with it by doing the home wods, daily. I did not really believe my eating was terrible, but knew that there were some things I needed to work on, eventually. I just knew at the moment, I needed to take baby steps. I did not zero in on my eating until July 2020, and boy am I so glad I did-I have definitely noticed that what you put in, gives you the output in your workout. As far as my diet goes, I try to avoid processed foods, and eat
more whole foods, as well as, eat more at home, period, than out. I definitely have some tweaking to do, but overall am happy about where my nutrition is headed, thanks to Nutrition 1710.
12. RESULTS? TELL US ABOUT YOUR RESULTS!
I have lost 5 lbs, but have gained some true definition throughout my body. I have leaned out quite a bit since July, after kicking those healthy eating habits into gear. There really are muscles under this skin. #armslikearmour

Where has this been my whole life......I am so happy to be a part of Crossfit 1710 and cannot imagine my life any other way. A huge shoutout to two amazing coaches, who make this all possible: Jason and Jodie. Without you both, I am not sure where I would be (probably back at home on the couch)--the support and encouragement you both give along with the push to strive to do your best each and every day, is totally worth walking into the box on the daily. You both inspire me and I am truly thankful that you both enjoy sharing this
passion with one’s that want to make lifestyle changes.
