November 2021 Athlete of The Month: Lauren Copeland

Each month we spotlight a different CrossFit 1710 athlete who stands out and shows just how awesome they are. What is it that makes up an Athlete of the Month? It may not be the person that finishes the fastest, Rx’s every WOD, or gets a PR every time they walk in the gym. Although we love and celebrate when those things happen, the Athlete of the Month is made up of much more than physical ability. This person shows up, gives their best every time, and then gives a little more. They are hungry to learn and always ready to do the work. They support their fellow athletes and encourage them to reach their goals. This athlete embodies what we believe the CrossFit 1710 Community should be about.


Our November 2021 Athlete of The Month is Lauren Copeland! Lauren began her CrossFit journey with us on July 2nd, 2021. Every workout with Lauren is fun! She is super coachable, has an awesome attitude, and gives every workout her best! Because of her consistency with these awesome attributes, we see excellent growth in Lauren's physical and mental strength to put in the work to achieve her desired goals. You will find Lauren getting her workout in for the day in our 5:00 am and/or 4:30 pm class. Come and join Lauren in a workout and you too will see what she is talking about and why she's our AOTM! Congratulations Lauren! We’re so happy to have you as our November 2021 Athlete of the Month and as an awesome athlete in our community! Get to know Lauren in her interview below.




1. TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF.

My name is Lauren! I’m originally from Wallis and went to Texas A&M University. I live in Wharton and I’m Instructional Facilitator at Wharton High School.I have been an educator for 6 years. I’m a dog mom to a crazy Goldendoodle named Gemma.


2. WHAT MADE YOU START CROSSFIT?

I was getting tired of the monotony of my everyday workouts. I had always wanted to try CrossFit after watching the CrossFit games every year, then one day, I decided to give it a try.


3. WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED SINCE JOINING CROSSFIT 1710?

I have learned that your mentality is everything and changing your mentality can change your whole life. The only person keeping you from accomplishing your goals is yourself.

4. WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT CROSSFIT 1710 OR CROSSFIT IN GENERAL?

Our coaches, Jason and Jodie, are phenomenal and work closely with you to make sure you are getting the most from your workout. I love how every athlete is so encouraging. You never feel less because you can’t do a certain move as well as others or because you scale back. Everyone has your back and motivates you!


5. WHAT IS YOUR PROUDEST CROSSFIT MOMENT?

My proudest CrossFit moment was doing pull-ups for the first time. I have never been able to do them in my entire life.


6. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE MOVEMENT/LIFT? LEAST FAVORITE?

My favorite movement would have to be kettlebell snatches or any kettlebell work. My least favorite movement is, go figure, burpees!

7. WHAT IMPACT HAS CROSSFIT HAD ON YOUR LIFE IN AND OUT OF THE GYM?

I’m much stronger mentally and physically since starting CrossFit. I joined when I was going through a lot of personal struggles and day by day, I saw a difference in myself and my life improved tremendously. I have a lot more mental clarity, but also I have a better attitude and outlook.

8. WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS AND HOW CLOSE ARE YOU TO REACHING THEM?

My goal is to be strong and tone. I am getting closer to my goal each day, however, I’m going to keep working until I see and feel the results I’ve been working toward.

9. WHEN YOU’RE NOT CROSSFITTING WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE THING TO DO?

In my free time, I enjoy hunting and fishing. I love to bake and spend time with my niece and nephew.

10. THE ONE TIP YOU’D GIVE SOMEONE WHO IS THINKING ABOUT STARTING CROSSFIT OR JUST STARTED?

Just get out there and do it! Also, stay consistent and you will see amazing results. The hardest part is getting there.

11. WHAT IS YOUR DIET LIKE? HAS IT CHANGED SINCE STARTING CROSSFIT?

My diet has improved tremendously since started CrossFit. It definitely holds you accountable to eat better or your workouts are not fun!


12. RESULTS? TELL US ABOUT YOUR RESULTS!

Overall, my clothes fit better, I see more definition in my body, and I feel at my best. I can’t wait to see more!
