November 2019 Athlete of The Month: Kristi Gibson!

Each month we spotlight a different CrossFit 1710 athlete who stands out and shows just how awesome they are. What is it that makes up an Athlete of the Month? It may not be the person that finishes the fastest, Rx’s every WOD, or gets a PR every time they walk in the gym. Although we love and celebrate when those things happen, the Athlete of the Month is made up of much more than physical ability. This person shows up, gives their best every time, and then gives a little more. They are hungry to learn and always ready to do the work. They support their fellow athletes and encourage them to reach their goals. This athlete embodies what we believe the CrossFit 1710 Community should be about.


Our November 2019 Athlete of The Month is Kristi Gibson! Kristi has been an athlete with us since April 2019. Kristi is full of drive, continuously working toward her goals and taking all the right steps to get there. You'll find Kristi in the 5:00am or 4:45p class. Come and join her in a workout and you’ll see why she's our AOTM! Get to know Kristi in her interview below. 1. TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF.

My name is Kristi Gibson, and I am the wife to Jonathan Gibson and the mother to Kenna and Kenzi Gibson. I am a professional photographer specializing in making people of all shapes, sizes and backgrounds feel beautiful and confident about how they look.


2. WHAT MADE YOU START CROSSFIT?

My great friend and business partner, Heather Kalina, had been trying to get me to come for a long time. I had a scare with my breast in March of 2019 (found a lump) and I promised Heather that once everything was back to normal, I would go to CrossFit with her. Praise God, it was the best “deal” I ever made!


3. WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED SINCE JOINING CROSSFIT 1710?

There really are people who don’t care what you like when you’re working out, and there really are people who want to see you do your best and who want to lift you up ALL THE TIME! Anddddd, sometimes even though you see the light at the end of the workout, you won’t actually die.


4. WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT CORSSFIT 1710 OR CROSSFIT IN GENERAL?

I enjoy getting to spend time with everyone in the program, and I enjoy all of the people who have come into my life through CrossFit.


5. WHAT IS YOUR PROUDEST CROSSFIT MOMENT?

I broke my heel during a workout in September. When I got to see how strong I really was MENTALLY in getting past that injury and getting back to working out even while in a boot and with crutches, that was probably my most proud CrossFit moment.


6. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE MOVEMENT/LIFT? LEAST FAVORITE?

Wait What??!! Just Kidding! I like anything that has to do with my abs because I like making those pop out as much as possible HA! I REALLY do not like Burpees or Overhead Squats.

7. WHAT IMPACT HAS CROSSFIT HAD ON YOUR LIFE IN AND OUT OF THE GYM?

Even though I’ve only been a member since April, I cannot imagine my life without CrossFit. I feel better about myself, I look better, I set a better example for my husband and my kids. CrossFit has impacted my life in ways that far surpass just the physical benefits of the program.


8. WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS AND HOW CLOSE ARE YOU TO REACHING THEM?

I want muscle definition. I was pretty close until I broke my heel. That set me back, but I know I will get there again....Hopefully in 2020. After that, I’d just like to improve all of my numbers and times for everything and see how strong I can really be.


9. WHEN YOU’RE NOT CROSSFITTING WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE THING TO DO?

I love to fish. Any kind of fishing, I’m down for it. And I love watching my husband and my children compete in anything!


10. THE ONE TIP YOU’D GIVE SOMEONE WHO IS THINKING ABOUT STARTING CROSSFIT OR JUST STARTED?

Just go! Don’t make excuses and even though you feel like you might die, go back again! Keep at it and I assure you that you will not look back!


11. WHAT IS YOUR DIET LIKE? HAS IT CHANGED SINCE STARTING CROSSFIT?

I’ve always been conscious about what I put in my body and the amounts I put in my body. However, I am not more conscious of how many carbs I put in my body because I do not have time to feel tired. I do not want to be tired because I have a WOD to do ;-)


12. RESULTS? TELL US ABOUT YOUR RESULTS!

I’ve never thought I was a big person or that I had any weight to lose. However, I’ve always wanted to tone my body, and I’ve tried just about everything under the sun. CrossFit is what works for me. The changes I have seen within my body are incredible and I cannot wait to see what is yet to come!


FREEWRITE:

I always hated going to gyms to workout because I am incredibly self conscious about how I look and about what people are thinking about me. I literally almost threw up the 1st time I went to CrossFit and I made Heather go with me to every workout the first month just because I don’t like working out in front of people. This is THE BEST group of people to be around and to work out around. I have never been so comfortable around people in my life, and for me to say that is HUGE! I love my CrossFit Family!
