March 2025 Athlete of the Month: Téa Martin

Each month we spotlight a different CrossFit 1710 athlete who stands out and shows just how awesome they are. What is it that makes up an Athlete of the Month? It may not be the person that finishes the fastest, Rx’s every WOD, or gets a PR every time they walk in the gym. Although we love and celebrate when those things happen, the Athlete of the Month is made up of much more than physical ability. This person shows up, gives their best every time, and then gives a little more. They are hungry to learn and always ready to do the work. They support their fellow athletes and encourage them to reach their goals. This athlete embodies what we believe the CrossFit 1710 Community should be about.

Our March 2025 Athlete of The Month is Téa Martin! Téa joined the CrossFit 1710 team in September of 2024. As a life-long athlete, she was looking for a fun way to refocus on fitness after finishing a collegiate rowing career. When Téa told us she was signed up for a Hyrox race, we knew that CrossFitting regularly with us would help her prepare for her race day (and we were right!). Our coaches are very proud of Téa's consistency and discipline in the gym that undoubtedly helped her have a great experience with Hyrox. Téa- we love having you as part of our team and look forward to seeing you continue to grow stronger in and out of the gym!

Get to know Téa in her interview below.

1.     TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF.

I’m Téa Martin, 28 years old. I am a former collegiate athlete at the University of Oklahoma, Fishing Guide in Alaska in the summers, and married to football coach Ryan Martin. That’s what brought us to El Campo with our three dogs.

2.     WHAT MADE YOU START CROSSFIT?

I started CrossFit because I wanted to challenge myself and missed the group workout setting. Quick google search led to finding CrossFit 1710 and it met every need I was looking for!

3.     WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED SINCE JOINING CROSSFIT 1710?

People can do hard things during hard times. It has been awesome to see just how much my body can do for me! I feel like as women it can be so hard to not critique our bodies and wish for a different look, but CrossFit has just made me see how awesome my body is! It can do both a Hyrox race and the hardest WOD out there. I love that and am happy to have found that in myself again.

4.     WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT CROSSFIT 1710 OR CROSSFIT IN GENERAL?

The joy that everyone has when they show up and work out is unmatched. Even if we are all dreading the burpees or running, we are still so happy to be there. That feeling is contagious. It is great to be surrounded by like-minded people that are showing up for themselves day in and day out.

5.     WHAT IS YOUR PROUDEST CROSSFIT MOMENT?

I am proud of the Hyrox race in Houston I completed on March 16. My partner and I completed a series of 8 stations and ran 5 miles total throughout the whole event.

I knew that what I had been doing in the gym during CrossFit would get me through that race and help me accomplish my goals. I was right- it totally did.

6.     WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE MOVEMENT/LIFT?

I am happy to see the rower. That machine and I go way back. I still don’t know if we are enemies or friends, BUT I am always happy to get back on it.

7.     WHAT IS YOUR LEAST FAVORITE MOVEMENT/LIFT?

Kipping pull-ups. I feel like I am closer than I have ever been to a pull-up so I am excited to keep working on these.

8.     FAVORITE WORKOUT MUSIC?

When it comes to music, I love a good throwback moment when I am in the gym working out. Right now my playlist includes: Hannah Montana, Eminem, Lil Wayne, and Fall Out Boy.

9.     WHAT IMPACT HAS CROSSFIT HAD ON YOUR LIFE IN AND OUT OF THE GYM?

I have been a competitor my whole life and I think it is just awesome to still be able to move my body and compete so it has been awesome to have CrossFit to help make that possible.

  1.  WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS AND HOW CLOSE ARE YOU TO REACHING THEM?

I want to keep competing in Hyrox races and I know that CrossFit has given me a great start for that.

  1. WHEN YOU’RE NOT CROSSFITTING WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE THING TO DO?  Anytime I am not at CrossFit I am down on the coast fishing, rafting with friends, or ( really anything I can do to be outside I am there)or visiting friends and family.

  2. WHAT IS THE ONE TIP YOU’D GIVE SOMEONE WHO IS THINKING ABOUT STARTING CROSSFIT OR JUST STARTED?  Go to CrossFit - it’s so fun!!!

  1. WHAT IS YOUR DIET LIKE? HOW HAS IT CHANGED SINCE STARTING CROSSFIT?

Nutrition wise I’m conscious of getting enough protein and maintaining a balanced diet. I don’t track - try to focus on mindful eating.

  1. RESULTS? TELL US ABOUT YOUR RESULTS! I feel very strong!
