Each month we spotlight a different CrossFit 1710 athlete who stands out and shows just how awesome they are. What is it that makes up an Athlete of the Month? It may not be the person that finishes the fastest, Rx’s every WOD, or gets a PR every time they walk in the gym. Although we love and celebrate when those things happen, the Athlete of the Month is made up of much more than physical ability. This person shows up, gives their best every time, and then gives a little more. They are hungry to learn and always ready to do the work. They support their fellow athletes and encourage them to reach their goals. This athlete embodies what we believe the CrossFit 1710 Community should be about.
Our June 2021 Athlete of The Month is Gage Zahn! Gage began her CrossFit journey with us in May 2021. Every workout with Gage is fun! He is super coachable, has an awesome attitude, and courageously steps out of his comfort zone. Because of his consistency with these awesome attributes, we see excellent growth in both Gage's physical strength and mental toughness. 1. TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF.
My name is Gage Zahn, and I'm eleven years old. I will be attending 6th grade at Iago Junior High in the fall. I love playing baseball and any kind of hunting with my dad.
2. WHAT MADE YOU START CROSSFIT?
I wanted to get stronger mentally and physically.
3. WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED SINCE JOINING CROSSFIT 1710?
To keep the pace while completing each exercise.
4. WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT CROSSFIT 1710 OR CROSSFIT IN GENERAL?
The comradery amongst all of the athletes.
5. WHAT IS YOUR PROUDEST CROSSFIT MOMENT?
Push pressing 47 lbs!
6. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE MOVEMENT/LIFT? LEAST FAVORITE?
I enjoyed the push press, but I do not enjoy doing burpees.
7. WHAT IMPACT HAS CROSSFIT HAD ON YOUR LIFE IN AND OUT OF THE GYM?
It has helped make me more confident in myself physically and mentally.
8.WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS AND HOW CLOSE ARE YOU TO REACHING THEM?
I feel stronger and am more confident in my abilities as an athlete.
9. WHEN YOU’RE NOT CROSSFITTING WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE THING TO DO?
When I'm not crossfitting I love playing baseball and hunting with my dad.
10.THE ONE TIP YOU’D GIVE SOMEONE WHO IS THINKING ABOUT STARTING CROSSFIT OR JUST STARTED?
Pick a pace that you feel confident and comfortable with.
11.WHAT IS YOUR DIET LIKE? HAS IT CHANGED SINCE STARTING CROSSFIT?
My parents help encourage me to eat more protein now in my diet.
12.RESULTS? TELL US ABOUT YOUR RESULTS!
As an athlete I feel that crossfit has helped prepare me for challenges both physically and mentally. I feel more confident in myself, and am excited to now compete with having crossfit in my background.
