Each month we spotlight a different CrossFit 1710 athlete who stands out and shows just how awesome they are. What is it that makes up an Athlete of the Month? It may not be the person that finishes the fastest, Rx’s every WOD, or gets a PR every time they walk in the gym. Although we love and celebrate when those things happen, the Athlete of the Month is made up of much more than physical ability. This person shows up, gives their best every time, and then gives a little more. They are hungry to learn and always ready to do the work. They support their fellow athletes and encourage them to reach their goals. This athlete embodies what we believe the CrossFit 1710 Community should be about.
Our December 2021 Athlete of The Month is Bradley Hutchinson! Bradley began his CrossFit journey with us on July 9th, 2019. Since then he has greatly improved his physical strength, mobility, endurance, and mental toughness. You'll hear Bradley cheering on his teammates during partner workouts and hyping up the whole class during individual workouts. Our athletes have noticed Bradley's enthusiasm and drive and our coaches are proud of the undeniable progress Bradley has made! Come and join Bradley in a workout and you too will see how much fun and inspiring classes with Brad always are and why he’s our AOTM! Congratulations Bradley! We’re so happy to have you as our December 2021 Athlete of the Month and as an awesome athlete in our community! Get to know Bradley in his interview below.
1. TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF.
My name is Bradley Hutchinson. I’m 13 years old. I live with my parents, Jodie & Gabe, and brother, Max, in Iago. I am in the 8th grade at Iago Junior High.
2. WHAT MADE YOU START CROSSFIT?
I joined CrossFit for a few reasons. The main one was because my mom encouraged me to do something fun with her. Now I think CrossFit is a place to make friends and get to know people.
3. WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED SINCE JOINING CROSSFIT 1710?
CrossFit has taught me it is a fun experience to exercise. I have learned new movements and good lessons about health and life.
4. WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT CROSSFIT 1710 OR CROSSFIT IN GENERAL?
I enjoy that on holidays we have fun workouts. On Halloween this year we had a lot of fun even though we were exercising.
5. WHAT IS YOUR PROUDEST CROSSFIT MOMENT?
The proudest moment for me was when I did 3,000 burpees for the month of April 2021. I split the 30 days up and completed 100 burpees a day. That sounds like a lot, but I divided the 100 reps up throughout the day. That helped me get it done, a few at a time. At first it was tough to do, but I learned to work hard and never quit.
6. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE MOVEMENT/LIFT? LEAST FAVORITE?
Favorite = Ring Rows
Least Favorite = I don’t really have one
7. WHAT IMPACT HAS CROSSFIT HAD ON YOUR LIFE IN AND OUT OF THE GYM?
CrossFit has taught me to enjoy working out. The workouts Coach Jason makes are fun, even when they are tough.
8. WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS AND HOW CLOSE ARE YOU TO REACHING THEM?
My life long goals include staying healthy and getting stronger.
9. WHEN YOU’RE NOT CROSSFITTING WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE THING TO DO?
I like to ride my bike at home. I enjoy drawing & watching history videos.
10. WHAT IS THE ONE TIP YOU’D GIVE SOMEONE WHO IS THINKING ABOUT STARTING CROSSFIT OR JUST STARTED?
I would tell them they can make better choices for their health by coming to CrossFit.
11. WHAT IS YOUR DIET LIKE? HAS IT CHANGED SINCE STARTING CROSSFIT?
I have recently added more protein to my nutrition. I like Purus Labs Mass Gain chocolate cookie crunch protein shakes with frozen bananas, milk, and a big spoonful of peanut butter. I drink them for breakfast or a snack at least once a day.
12. RESULTS? TELL US ABOUT YOUR RESULTS!
I tend to run and ride my bike around the house more often than I used to before CrossFit.
