Each month we spotlight a different CrossFit 1710 athlete who stands out and shows just how awesome they are. What is it that makes up an Athlete of the Month? It may not be the person that finishes the fastest, Rx’s every WOD, or gets a PR every time they walk in the gym. Although we love and celebrate when those things happen, the Athlete of the Month is made up of much more than physical ability. This person shows up, gives their best every time, and then gives a little more. They are hungry to learn and always ready to do the work. They support their fellow athletes and encourage them to reach their goals. This athlete embodies what we believe the CrossFit 1710 Community should be about. Our August 2021 Athlete of The Month is Michelle Tiech! Michelle began her CrossFit journey with us on May 7th, 2021. Every workout with Michelle is fun! She is super coachable, has an awesome attitude, and courageously steps out of her comfort zone. Because of her consistency with these awesome attributes, we see excellent growth in both Michelle's physical strength and mental toughness. You will find Michelle getting her workout in for the day in the 4:30p or 5:30p class. Come and join Michelle in a workout and you too will see what she is talking about and why she's our AOTM! Congratulations Michelle! We’re so happy to have you as our August 2021 Athlete of the Month and as an awesome athlete in our community! 1. TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF.
I am Michelle Tiech, and I’m 39 years old. I’ve been married to my husband Eric for 12 years, and I’m a proud mother of three amazing children...8 year old twin boys Dylan and Jase and my step daughter Trinity. I started CrossFit in early May.
2. WHAT MADE YOU START CROSSFIT?
Over the last 15 months, I worked really hard to change my eating habits, only lean protein, veggies and healthy fats, and I lost weight which was great, but I knew that to really get healthy I needed to exercise and build muscle, so I decided to get off the fence and try CrossFit.
3. WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED SINCE JOINING CROSSFIT 1710?
I’ve learned that I absolutely love it and that CrossFit really is for everyone, no matter where you are in your journey.
4. WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT CROSSFIT 1710 OR CROSSFIT IN GENERAL?
I really enjoy the wonderful and friendly people I’ve met at 1710, the great mix of cardio and strength building, the feeling I have after I’ve completed a workout that I didn’t think I could do, and the confidence I’m gaining as I continue my journey towards a healthier me.
5. WHAT IS YOUR PROUDEST CROSSFIT MOMENT?
My first pull up. I was so intimidated just from looking at the bar, but I did it!
6. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE MOVEMENT/LIFT? LEAST FAVORITE?
My favorite movement is the bear complex because it works so many different parts of your body. My absolute all time least favorite is burpees!
7. WHAT IMPACT HAS CROSSFIT HAD ON YOUR LIFE IN AND OUT OF THE GYM?
I’ve gained so much confidence and independence, and I love it! I’m still on my journey, but I feel more comfortable about my body than I have in years, and I don’t think twice anymore about whether I can or cannot lift something or do something, I just do it.
8. WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS AND HOW CLOSE ARE YOU TO REACHING THEM?
My goal is to continue to get fit, and I’m working my way there!
9. WHEN YOU’RE NOT CROSSFITTING WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE THING TO DO?
I love spending time with my family in nature and doing anything outdoors, including camping, fishing, kayaking, and hiking.
10. THE ONE TIP YOU’D GIVE SOMEONE WHO IS THINKING ABOUT STARTING CROSSFIT OR JUST STARTED?
Don’t wait, just try it, and you’ll love it. My only regret is not starting years ago.
11. WHAT IS YOUR DIET LIKE? HAS IT CHANGED SINCE STARTING CROSSFIT?
I try really hard stick to a low carb diet, but I’ll never give up chips, salsa and margaritas!
12. RESULTS? TELL US ABOUT YOUR RESULTS!
After two months, I’ve lost 5 inches, and I’m so happy. I’m also starting to see muscle definition that was never there before. I can’t wait to see what my results are a year from now!
