August 2020 Athlete of The Month: LeeAnn Kalina!

Each month we spotlight a different CrossFit 1710 athlete who stands out and shows just how awesome they are. What is it that makes up an Athlete of the Month? It may not be the person that finishes the fastest, Rx’s every WOD, or gets a PR every time they walk in the gym. Although we love and celebrate when those things happen, the Athlete of the Month is made up of much more than physical ability. This person shows up, gives their best every time, and then gives a little more. They are hungry to learn and always ready to do the work. They support their fellow athletes and encourage them to reach their goals. This athlete embodies what we believe the CrossFit 1710 Community should be about.


Our August 2020 Athlete of The Month is LeeAnn Kalina! At the encouragement of her sister, LeeAnn began her CrossFit journey with us in June 2020. After her free trial week, LeeAnn told us that she knew CrossFit 1710 was a great fit for her. Since then, she has consistently attended our 5:00am Strong Before Dawn class and made fantastic fitness and health gains that we are very proud of!  LeeAnn recently told our team, "From day one of coming to CrossFit 1710, I have felt like I belong." We could not agree more! LeeAnn's consistency and determination to improve and move every day is something we are very proud of asher coaches and teammates. 1. TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF.

Im a single Mom of a 17 year old Daughter, Kaitlyn. 2. WHAT MADE YOU START CROSSFIT? My Sister, Heather had talked me into it and after turning 37 in June, I knew I needed to get back on the healthier lifestyle & continue my Weightloss journey.

3. WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED SINCE JOINING CROSSFIT 1710?

I have learned that I can do more than what I give myself credit for. I’m stronger than what I thought. 4. WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT CORSSFIT 1710 OR CROSSFIT IN GENERAL? 

Getting up and starting my day with my CrossFit friends. Who knew I’d be someone who likes to get up at 4 am and sweat so much and workout.  5. WHAT IS YOUR PROUDEST CROSSFIT MOMENT? 

My proudest moment was when I started doing air squats & step ups.  6. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE MOVEMENT/LIFT? LEAST FAVORITE?

Favorite movement and least favorite movement is the same thing lol step ups. 7. WHAT IMPACT HAS CROSSFIT HAD ON YOUR LIFE IN AND OUT OF THE GYM?

CrossFit has impacted my life In so many positive ways. I feel better, I want to eat healthier and always want to do my best in the gym. It has given me more confidence to do new things that I never thought I’d do.  8. WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS AND HOW CLOSE ARE YOU TO REACHING THEM?

My goals are to get stronger and healthier. A few years ago I was at my highest weight of 480. With healthier eating, Weightloss surgery and hard work I’m down to 340. My goal is to be 250-270 and to be the strongest & healthiest  I can be. I want to live life instead of just existing like I used to feel.  9. WHEN YOU’RE NOT CROSSFITTING WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE THING TO DO?

Spend time with my Family & Friends. Swimming, reading & quality time with those special people in my life. 10. THE ONE TIP YOU’D GIVE SOMEONE WHO IS THINKING ABOUT STARTING CROSSFIT OR JUST STARTED?

You won’t die (lol I used to joke that I was gonna when I started) You will have a Amazing support group to cheer you on every step of the way. Just take it one day at a time and you will be happy you show up each day. 11. WHAT IS YOUR DIET LIKE? HAS IT CHANGED SINCE STARTING CROSSFIT?

I’m still working on this. My diet has changed since starting CrossFit, I find myself craving healthier foods. Fast food and a lot of processed foods make me feel sick most of the time. 12. RESULTS? TELL US ABOUT YOUR RESULTS!

I’m so Greatful To have CrossFit 1710 in my life. Each person has been welcoming and I feel comfortable. I have my days where I don’t want to workout but in the end I always feel better after. Thank each of you for the support y’all give me and each other.

Thank you Coach Jason & Jodi for always going over the workouts and making sure I’m comfortable. I know I keep saying that but it’s a big deal to me.
