Each month we spotlight a different CrossFit 1710 athlete who stands out and shows just how awesome they are. What is it that makes up an Athlete of the Month? It may not be the person that finishes the fastest, Rx’s every WOD, or gets a PR every time they walk in the gym. Although we love and celebrate when those things happen, the Athlete of the Month is made up of much more than physical ability. This person shows up, gives their best every time, and then gives a little more. They are hungry to learn and always ready to do the work. They support their fellow athletes and encourage them to reach their goals. This athlete embodies what we believe the CrossFit 1710 Community should be about.
Our August 2019 Athletes of The Month are Zeke & Christan Rivera! Christan has been with us from the very beginning (2014)! Zeke has been an athlete with us since April 2018. You’ll find Zeke & Christan in just about every class time depending on their busy work day. Zeke & Christan both work extremely hard and push each other to be better every day! Christan Rivera
1. TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF.
I am a hairstylist of 11 years, mom, business owner of two businesses and a CrossFitter!
2. WHAT MADE YOU START CROSSFIT?
One day I messaged Jason and asked him if he would help me reach my goal of becoming healthier and I wanted to get I shape!!
3. WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED SINCE JOINING CROSSFIT 1710?
I make better choices about food so that I’m able to see results! I show up even when I don’t feel like it! CrossFit has helped me to become accountable!
4. WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT CORSSFIT 1710 OR CROSSFIT IN GENERAL?
I feel strong and I feel like I’ve gotten better in my fitness goals!
5. WHAT IS YOUR PROUDEST CROSSFIT MOMENT?
I can now say that I can do a handstand push up!! I had never done one before this year!! This year is my year to meet new goals!
6. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE MOVEMENT/LIFT? LEAST FAVORITE?
My favorite is back squats and pull-ups.
Least favorite is definitely burpees!!! I hate burpees!!!
7. WHAT IMPACT HAS CROSSFIT HAD ON YOUR LIFE IN AND OUT OF THE GYM?
I don’t allow myself to over eat and if I have a cheat day or weekend I get right back on track! It helps me to hold myself accountable! I look forward to CrossFit daily!! If I miss I get mad lol!! It’s a lifestyle!!
8. WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS AND HOW CLOSE ARE YOU TO REACHING THEM?
At first my goal was to only loose weight!! I now realize being fit isn’t about the scale!! It’s about what your putting in your body! A 200 lbs of fat is different from 200lbs of lean muscle!
9. WHEN YOU’RE NOT CROSSFITTING WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE THING TO DO?
I love all things beauty!! I love spending time with my family and shopping!!
10. THE ONE TIP YOU’D GIVE SOMEONE WHO IS THINKING ABOUT STARTING CROSSFIT OR JUST STARTED?
Don’t compare yourself to anyone!! Don’t be intimidated by what you think you CANT DO!! Focus on what you can do and do your best!!
11. WHAT IS YOUR DIET LIKE? HAS IT CHANGED SINCE STARTING CROSSFIT?
I try and keep a low carb high protein diet!! I limit my sweets and do so much better than what I used to! I know I will keep adapting and adding healthier habits as i progress! It’s hard but I just try and do better each day! Lots of water! No soda!
12. RESULTS? TELL US ABOUT YOUR RESULTS!
I have lost 4 inches from from my waist and 3 from my hips!! My butt has lifted and my legs are so much more toned! I feel great!! I can’t wait to see more results!!

I am a barber of 6 years and a dad of 6 kids
2. WHAT MADE YOU START CROSSFIT?
My wife invited me and I like a challenge
3. WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED SINCE JOINING CROSSFIT 1710?
I have learned the proper techniques of lifting weights
4. WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT CORSSFIT 1710 OR CROSSFIT IN GENERAL?
I enjoy the challenge daily! I still get nervous. It’s like when I boxed as a kid fixing to get ready to fight
5. WHAT IS YOUR PROUDEST CROSSFIT MOMENT?
When I deadlifted 365lbs
6. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE MOVEMENT/LIFT? LEAST FAVORITE?
Favorite is deadlift and least favorite is overhead squats
7. WHAT IMPACT HAS CROSSFIT HAD ON YOUR LIFE IN AND OUT OF THE GYM?
CrossFit has definitely helped me with my endurance
8. WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS AND HOW CLOSE ARE YOU TO REACHING THEM?
My goal is to be able to do pull-ups and muscle ups with no bands.
9. WHEN YOU’RE NOT CROSSFITTING WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE THING TO DO?
Spending time with my family but I love to fish
10. THE ONE TIP YOU’D GIVE SOMEONE WHO IS THINKING ABOUT STARTING CROSSFIT OR JUST STARTED?
Try to come as much as possible even when you don’t feel like it.
11. WHAT IS YOUR DIET LIKE? HAS IT CHANGED SINCE STARTING CROSSFIT?
It’s better but it's not perfect. Cutting out the cokes and trying to limit carbs.
12. RESULTS? TELL US ABOUT YOUR RESULTS!
Energy levels are increasing. Legs are getting stronger and I’m more flexible.

CrossFit 1710 is made up of great coaches! Friendly and encouraging people who are ready to work hard! I plan on doing CrossFit as long as I can. When I reach 40 I want to be in better shape than I was when I was 20. When my son is old enough I hope he will come and enjoy it as much as I do!
