Each month we spotlight a different CrossFit 1710 athlete who stands out and shows just how awesome they are. What is it that makes up an Athlete of the Month? It may not be the person that finishes the fastest, Rx’s every WOD, or gets a PR every time they walk in the gym. Although we love and celebrate when those things happen, the Athlete of the Month is made up of much more than physical ability. This person shows up, gives their best every time, and then gives a little more. They are hungry to learn and always ready to do the work. They support their fellow athletes and encourage them to reach their goals. This athlete embodies what we believe the CrossFit 1710 Community should be about.
Our April 2021 Athlete of The Month is Leslie Hilliard! Leslie began her CrossFit journey with us on June 28, 2020. Every workout with Leslie is fun! She is very coachable, has an awesome attitude, and courageously steps out of her comfort zone. Because of her consistency with these awesome attributes, we see excellent growth in both Leslie's physical strength and mental toughness. You will find Leslie getting her workout in for the day in our 5:00a Strong Before Dawn class with her sister Lori and Saturday morning Weekend Warrior class with Lori and Leslie's nephew, Lucas. 1. TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF.
I have resided in Wharton for 8 years. I have a dog and cat. I’m a member of the Pilot Club of Wharton and an active Wharton S.P.O.T. volunteer.
2. WHAT MADE YOU START CROSSFIT?
I wanted something more challenging than home workouts.
3. WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED SINCE JOINING CROSSFIT 1710?
Consistent, controlled movements = Results.
4. WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT CORSSFIT 1710 OR CROSSFIT IN GENERAL?
Tackling daily Strong Before Dawn classes with my sister, Lori Hollingsworth, and the supportive environment. Also, starting Saturday mornings working out with my sister and nephew is a great way to start the weekend.
5. WHAT IS YOUR PROUDEST CROSSFIT MOMENT?
The ability to perform “real” lunges 😊
6. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE MOVEMENT/LIFT? LEAST FAVORITE?
Favorite movement: Back Squats

7. WHAT IMPACT HAS CROSSFIT HAD ON YOUR LIFE IN AND OUT OF THE GYM?
Greater endurance and flexibility

Continue to show up and make progress every day!

10. THE ONE TIP YOU’D GIVE SOMEONE WHO IS THINKING ABOUT STARTING CROSSFIT OR JUST STARTED?
Just try. Don’t be intimidated, be coachable, don’t set limits, and find inspiration in others.
11. WHAT IS YOUR DIET LIKE? HAS IT CHANGED SINCE STARTING CROSSFIT?
I’m eating more protein. I like O2 Recovery drinks- they are great after class!
12. RESULTS? TELL US ABOUT YOUR RESULTS!
I have become stronger. My cardio has greatly improved, especially since I am NOT a runner.
